Bearcat Announcements
Tom Landry Scholarship Winners
In the 14th year of the Tom Landry Classic, the following seniors were selected for the Tom Landry Scholarship class of 2014.  There were 15 recipients in all for this year.  Each student received a scholarship in the amount of $1000.  Selected from Aledo High School are Aubry Adams, Skyler Schoolfield, Preston Bradham, and Matthew Fanning.  The banquet was held Monday, April 21 in the main ballroom at Maggiano's in North Dallas. The students are pictured with special guest Tom Landry, Jr.   Guest speaker was Bob Breunig who played linebacker for the Cowboys from 1975 - 1984.

Spring Signing Ceremony Features Five Athletes
The spring signing ceremony this week featured six AHS athletes who will continue their sport in college. Congratulations to the following:

Gridiron 4A Coach of the Year


AISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Tim Buchanan won 4A Coach of the Year. Senior Preston Bradham was a semifinalist for Scholar Athlete of the Year. He played Offensive Lineman for the Aledo Bearcats. Congratulations!




AHS Band Sweepstakes!
The Aledo High School Varsity Wind Ensemble performed at the UIL Concert and Sight-reading contest yesterday at Burleson High School. The group earned straight Division One - Superior ratings from all six judges in Concert and Sight-reading. A UIL SWEEPSTAKES! This was the Varsity Band’s 20th Division One Rating in Concert and Sight-reading since 1995. The Wind Ensemble performed two grade 5 selections from the UIL Prescribed Music List. According to Director of Bands Joey Paul, "The students were fantastic yesterday and the comment sheets were great! Thank you for sharing your kids with us on a daily basis. For all three high-school bands and the two middle-school bands to earn a UIL sweepstakes and play the level of music each band is performing is really special, and definitely something only a few band programs in the entire STATE of TEXAS achieve each year. Thank you for your constant love and support for this entire band program (6-12)."

Parent Meeting for Summer Acceleration

There is a MANDATORY parent information meeting on Tuesday, April 29, from 6-7 p.m. for students interested in summer school acceleration courses. The meeting is in the Lecture Hall at the Daniel Night Grade Campus.  Students in grades 8-12 will be allowed to enroll. Courses will be offered through the Texas Virtual School Network and Tech ISD.  There is a cost associated with these courses and it varies for each provider. 

Aledo ISD will offer Speech and Health; however, other course offering are being discussed and approved.  More information will be available at the meeting. Mrs. Jones, Counselor at AHS, will also be at the meeting to help with questions you or your student may have.


AHS Tennis Competes for a State Title

Congratulations to Nikki Adamie for reaching the quarter-finals of the Regional Tennis Tournament, and special congratulations to Erik Meendsen and Ryan Howell for being the first players in the history of Aledo High School tennis to win a Regional  4A Tennis Tournament. They will now be one of 8 Boys Doubles Teams to compete for the STATE title on April 28 in Austin.  Good luck, Racquetcats!







Jumpin' Jamboree Fun for Kids and Adults!
Approximately 200 Aledo High School students were paired with 195 young participants for the annual Jumpin’ Jamboree at Bearcat Stadium. This field day promotes interaction and stimulation between kids with intellectual disabilities and the high-school students that volunteer to help. Students from school districts in Glen Rose, Granbury, Peaster, Poolville and White Settlement joined Aledo kiddos in stations for track races, mini golf, Frisbee throwing, lawn bowling, soccer, face painting, and more. With the aid of 45 volunteers from the Daniel Ninth Grade Leading Ladies program who manned the stations, these kids were encouraged and empowered to share in the various events. READ MORE






AHS Student Wins for Unique Sculpture

Brooke Johnson, a junior at AHS, recently received $50 from an anonymous donor at the District Attorney Art Show. Her sculpture, entitled “Overcoming the Injustice,” depicts an individual rising out of the mire. An art patron thought the sculpture worthy and made the anonymous contribution. Congratulations, Brooke!


First AHS Debate Team Competes at State UIL Competition
The foursome of Jacoby Talley, Zackery Huxel, Cole Forsythe and Wes Nash comprise Aledo High School’s first-ever Debate Team. Under the coaching of AP English Teacher Donna Cole, the team participated at the State UIL competition over spring break. Their topic was: “Resolved that the United States should substantially increase economic engagement with Mexico, Cuba or Venezuela.”  They had to be able to argue both sides of the resolution without prior notice. Although the team did not advance to the finals, it was a substantial accomplishment to go to State in their first year of competition. Congratulations!


Equine Judging Team Qualifies for State
Aledo FFA had an excellent week at the Area Equine Judging Contest and Qualified for the State FFA Judging Contest in Lubbock.   This team has had a tremendous work ethic and has a real passion for Horse Evaluation. When the weather doesn’t always cooperate, this team is still practicing when most people would not want to be out in the elements.  Senior Connor West finished Fourth overall in the contest, and has been the head coach of the team from the beginning.  Pictured from left to right are Molly Spitler, Connor West, Cassaday West and Carey Williams.


AHS Golfers Head to State Tournament
Congratulations to the Varsity Girls golf team for winning the Region I Golf tournament in Abilene this week. The team of Cheyenne Knight, Taylor Brookshire, Savannah Moody, Quincy Ballard, and Taryn Pittman won the Regional tournament, beating Byron Nelson by 48 shots!! Cheyenne Knight won the Region I individual title, shooting 75-70. Taylor Brookshire was runner up with a 78-71 score. The Varsity II team of Mary Katherine Ingram, Elizabeth Boll, Emily Barkell, Maddie Clemens, and Sarah Price placed a strong Seventh out of 16 Regional teams. The first team of girls will now advance to the State Tournament in Austin on April 28-29  the UT Golf Club. Great job to all the girls!
              
Earlier in the week, the Varsity Boys golf team of Logan Lambert, Dalton Trimmer, Steven Shurtz, Matt James, and Clayton Rinehart placed Fourth in the Regional tournament, missing qualification by two shots. Logan Lambert and Dalton Trimmer tied for the Third qualifying spot, going to State. Logan won the final spot with a par on the second playoff hole. Great job guys, and congratulations to Logan Lambert who will play at UT golf club in the State Championship on April 28-29.

Ladycats Basketball Team Basks in All-State Honors
The Ladycats basketball team may not have quite taken the State Championship, but members of the team brought an impressive array of honors, including being named to the All-State team, Star-Telegram Super Team and more. Caleb Buchanan selected for THSCA All-Star Game

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES ALL-STARS FOR THE THSCA 2014 ALL-STAR GAMES PRESENTED BY FUDDRUCKERS 

The All-Star Football game, now in its’ 80th year, will be played on July 22nd at the Alamodome.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  The South team will be coached by Bob Gillis of El Campo High School, and the North will be coached by Joey McGuire of Cedar Hill High School. Selected to play from Aledo High School is Caleb Buchanan.

AHS Choir Earns Sweepstakes at UIL!!
For the first time since 2008, the Aledo High School varsity choir scored Sweepstakes at its UIL competition. And according to Choir Director Karen Paul, it was their most challenging program ever. Congratulations!!

AHS Varsity Winterguard Wins Silver

The Aledo High School varsity Winterguard received the silver medal in the National A class of the North Texas Colorguard Association competition. The junior varsity received a silver medal in the Regional A class, and the AMS Colorguard won silver in the Cadet division. Congratulations!

Ladycats Named to All-District Teams
Congratulations to the Ladycats Soccer players who were named to All-District teams. Maddy Lozano was named Offensive Player of the Year. On First Team are Kristen Schultz, Shelby Brown, Peyton Laughley, Sydney Laughley and Sydney Barb. Named to the Second Team are Brittney Trought, Kaitlin Detherage, Haley Knesek and Sydney Vancuren.

Football Season Ticket Holders

AISD will host the Season Tickets Exchange event on Tuesday, April 8, from 6-8 p.m. This is the time for renewed ticket holders to relocate to more desirable seats. The entrance for this event is located at the doors by the Bearcat Store in the AISD Administration Building.

Tickets must have been renewed in order to participate in the exchange. No additional Season Tickets may be purchased at this time, but ticket upgrades must be purchased during this event. 

If you are unable to attend, a proxy authorized by you in writing is acceptable, or you may come to the Bearcat Store during normal store hours (Monday – Friday,  8 a.m. – 4 p.m.), April 9 – April 24, to exchange/relocate tickets.

Visitors to Aledo High School Campus


Parents are welcome to visit our school.  For the safety of those within the school and to avoid disruption of instructional time, all visitors must report to the main office and sign in, and must comply with all applicable district policies and procedures.


Visitors other than parents are generally not permitted on campus.

Food deliveries of any kind are not permitted to be delivered to students on campus.  Parents may bring food to the office for their child only on special occasions (that means your parents cannot bring food for another student or a group of students).
