Fred Jones was named Head Boys Basketball Coach at Aledo High School. Jones comes to Aledo after four successful years as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Flower Mound Marcus High School.
Jones recorded a 103-35 overall record at Marcus from 2011-2015, leading the Marauders to the Class 5A Region 1 semifinals in 2013 and the program’s first-ever undefeated District Championship in 2014. He earned District 5-5A Coach of the Year honors in 2014 after leading Marcus to the Regional Quarterfinals and a 29-3 overall record.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the Bearcat community,” Jones said. “My family is looking forward to playing a role in the success of the boys’ basketball program.” READ MORE.

AHS Principal Dan Peterson led the Senior Academic Awards ceremony celebrating the academic achievements of the 2015 graduating class. This year’s class included 10 National Merit Commended Scholars and 31 AP Scholars. Most notable was that the class of 2015 has been offered scholarships totaling $23,527,184 – the highest total ever achieved at Aledo High School, and more than double the amount received last year.
Many individual scholarship winners were announced, as were 41 students who are in the top 10 percent of their class and who participated in one or more UIL activities during high school. AP Scholar Awards recognize high-school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Thirty seniors received these honors. Four students received National Merit Scholarship Corporation awards.
