AHS HOSA Students Advancing to State Competition

Students from the Aledo High School Health Science Department recently participated in the spring Leadership conference of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) in Abilene. The spring Leadership conference is the equivalent of HOSA’s District 5 Regional competition. This is the first year that Health Science has been offered in Aledo ISD. The Health Science program is well on its way to becoming the largest pathway in the CTE program at Aledo High School.

Aledo’s HOSA club has already shown it will be a force in HOSA District 5. There are 27 members in the club and they fielded seven in the spring Leadership competition. Of those who
competed, the team of Morgan Head and Annabelle Jones, both juniors, took home Second place in the CERT competition. Isabella Guimaraes, a freshman, placed Second in the Clinical Skill competition. The top three winners in each division advance to the State competition of HOSA in April. The top three places in the State competition advance to the National competition in June in Nashville.

“It is rare that a new HOSA club does so well in their first competition,” said Hill Flora,
teacher in the AHS Health Science Technology department. “Everyone who is involved with the new club and program are simply ecstatic with the excellent showing of our students. There is little doubt that they will do well at State and head to the National competition.”

DFWVarsity Player of the Week
Congratulations to Cameron Huddleston, starting guard for the Ladycat Basketball team for being selected as the DFWVarsity Girls Basketball Player of the Week. Cameron is a junior and has been voted on by her team and coaches as one of the captains for the Ladycats.  She can hit a three-pointer or drive the lane with ease around the opponents for a lay-up. On defense, she is one of the leading rebounders and leads in steals and causing other teams to turn over the ball.  This recognition is well deserved.  Cameron is a two-sport athlete as she also excels in soccer. Way to go Cameron!  Keep up the good work!
